What type of information does CAR VX provide?
CAR VX provides information about the vehicle's title, registration and usage history. Each report displays the results of our comprehensive search for salvage or junk vehicles; damage from hail, flood or fire; mileage discrepancies or odometer rollback; and gray market vehicles. CAR VX also looks for vehicles designated as rentals, taxis or fleet usage; abandoned or forfeited vehicles; records of theft; manufacturer recalls and vehicle safety grade information. CAR VX reports on accident damage when that information is provided to it. CAR VX does NOT provide the names of or information pertaining to a vehicle's previous owner(s). CAR VX may not provide information on every accident in which a vehicle may have been involved.
Where does CAR VX's history information come from?
Information provided in a CAR VX Vehicle History Report comes from various data sources. These include: Japan`s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), car manufacturers, used car auctions, salvage car auctions, insurance companies, auto dealers, inspection sites and several state agencies.
What does "no history found" indicate?
"No Records Found" indicates that CAR VX found no information in that category at that particular point in time. This could mean that we have not yet received that data or it could be an indication of a problem-free condition. Vehicles that most often show up as "No Records Found" are newer, so we may not yet have received any information for that vehicle.
My vehicle was manufactured for non-Japanese market. Can I get a report for it?
No. CAR VX only reports on vehicles manufactured for Japanese market.

2. Vehicle Chassis Number

What is a chassis number?
Chassis number is the unique identifier for every car built in Japan. Japanese carmakers do not use a Vehicle Identification Number as is common in the United States and elsewhere. Instead, Japan uses a Chassis (Frame) Number — nine to twelve alphanumeric characters identifying model and serial number. For example, Frame Number SV30-0169266 breaks down as "V30" identifying the model as Toyota Camry/Vista x30; "S" identifying the engine (4S-FE), and "0169266" being the serial number of the vehicle. Vehicle make is not identified but slight number variations can identify the carmaker, i.e. Toyota usually uses seven digits for its serial numbers while Nissan uses six.
Where can I find the chassis number?
You can find the chassis number of a vehicle in a number of places on a car, but most commonly on the body of the car next to the driver’s seat when the driver's door is open. Sometimes it is actually on the inside of the driver’s door. On some vehicles, the chassis number is also placed on the engine, hood, and other parts. It also appears on the car registration, insurance policies, service records and police reports for the vehicle. You can find some useful guidance in the "Chassis number" section.
